ObesityIt is a term used for people who are overweight. The condition can be caused due to inactivity or medication or medical problems like thyroid, hormonal problems etc.The state of being obese is considered critical as it may likely lead to other complications in the cardiovascular system and other complications.
BMIHow do we determine if a person is obese or not.All of us have different physical attributes .There can be people who are tall with the same weight as person who is a couple of inches shorter. There should be a common platform to calibrate people with different physical attributes.BMI(Body Mass Index) is an entity derived and used to get a numerical value based on a person's height and weight. So based on a person's BMI we can classify them as being obese or not.
OccupationThe major part of our time is spent on studies or work depending on person to person. We tend to have erratic shifts and times for the occupation, that get in the way having healthy food, physical activity, thereby leading to obesity. In some cases,The stress associated with the occupation also contributes to the obesity. We have to keep giving our occupation the priority due to an increasingly competitive work out there. We just have to balance the both in order to get the best of both for our well being.
Lack of timeTime is a major factor for anyone today. We try to prioritize all our activities and allocate more time for them,In order to excel in them.We try to work harder at school or office to get better grades or have a better career growth.since, most of our weekdays are utilised like this in the weekends we try hanging out for movies and so on.Considering all theses activities, staying healthy and spending some time contributing to it will be the last of our priorities. We would have to sort our priorities better by taking some points as mentioned into consideration.
Junk foodThere is no hard and fast rule of categorising foods as junk food or not.In general usage, whatever food is not healthy is called junk food. Now how do we decide as to ,if the food is good for our health or not.In common,if we are not able to burn the extra calories that we consume then that gets accumulated in the body leading to obesity. We cannot get rid of junk food from our lifestyle, but we sure can take an effort to reduce the consumption, and in irresistible circumstances taking counter measures like jogging the next day or cycling etc.
Lack of placeToday the most expensive is land. There is a scarcity of open space in the city for outdoor physical activities. There are hardly any open grounds for playing games like cricket ,football. There is a new trend emerging ,where we can rent shuttle courts are cricket grounds. The trend though marginally on the positive side ,not every one can afford to pay on a regular basis. There can be government initiatives for community facilities to be used by the public.
GamesThe first that comes to many people's minds when games are mentioned is cricket. There is a difference between the perception based on age the older generations are thinking of outdoor cricket where as the young lad is thinking about his video games. The video games are so addictive ,that children hardly go outside to play, instead they play multiplayer inside denying them the outdoor exercise and atmosphere.
AwarenessThere should be a lot of awareness about the causes the effects of obesity .There can also be health camps across educational institutions and offices to make it a routine and keep reminding people about the effects of obesity and encourage them to get fit and healthy.
